Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ may be a big hit in North India, but it has not created any impact in Tamil Nadu, according to senior BJP leaders in the State.
The response to the Prime Minister’s video conferencing with party activists (Karyakarthas) in Tamil Nadu too was the same. Though it got wide publicity thanks to the mass media, the truth is that more than 90 per cent of the audience have not followed what the Prime Minister was telling.
“Language is a major issue in Tamil Nadu. None of us could understand Hindi. The DMK and AIADMK Governments were ‘intelligent’ enough not to allow Hindi in Government run schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu. This has been done with the intention to keep the North Indian political parties at bay from the State,” said Narayanan Tiruppati , BJP’s Tamil Nadu spokesman.
The Video conference held by Prime Minister Modi could not make any impact among the people who attended to the same. “This was in contrast to the period when the UPA Government was in power. The UPA Government effectively made use of the Central Government’s publicity arms like the Press Information Bureau, All India Radio and Doordarshan,” said Uma Ananthan, a BJP livewire in Chennai.
