Police on Tuesday recovered the charred body of Partho Dey who hit the national headlines when he was rescued in 2015 with mental conditions living with the skeleton of his sister and two dogs —that had perished at least six months before.

Police suspected it to be a case of suicide as a bottle of petrol and match box was recovered from the site of his death inside a bathroom of his apartment which was reportedly locked from within.

“We reached the flat after receiving a complaint from the neighbours and found Dey’s half-burnt body lying inside the bathroom,” a senior police officer said. The body had been sent for postmortem.

Dey a highly qualified person came from an affluent family of Robinson Street in South-central Kolkata where he lived with his family. He hit the headlines in 2015 when the police stumbled upon the skeletons of his elder sister, and two dogs with whom he had been living for the previous six months.

Not only his sister had fasted to death but Dey’s father Arobindo Dey had also committed suicide by burning himself inside a bathroom. After June 2015 incident Dey was shifted for a few months to Pavlov mental hospital before being released. He later frequented the Mother Teresa’s home in Kolkata before retiring into a pricey apartment at Watgunge Street.
