A man strangled his 11-year-old daughter to death and surrendered himself to police at Baba Haridas Nagar in West Delhi on Tuesday. Police suspect the girl was sexually assaulted before being killed by her father. They were waiting for her post-mortem report to reach to any conclusion. Citing the reputation of the girl, police have refused to divulge the names of the victim or her accused father.
The incident came to fore when the accused, who works as a farmer approached Baba Haridas Nagar police station informing that he killed his daughter. A police team went to his home and recovered the body. “Preliminary investigations suggest that the girl was also sexually assaulted before being killed,” said a police officer.
The accused lived with his wife, a son and a daughter in Dhichaon Kalan village in South-West Delhi. But ever since his wife’s death, his children began living away from him.
Police said the accused was mentally disturbed ever since his wife allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train in Delhi less than a month ago. He told police that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with a neighbour.
His daughter had come to meet him on Monday night when he strangled her. He then visited the Baba Haridas Nagar police station during the wee hours of Tuesday and confessed that he had strangled his daughter.
He told police that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with a neighbour. That had led to frequent fights between the couple. The fights took an ugly turn on April 23 this year when she committed suicide by jumping on the railway tracks passing through the area.
