In a sensational case, a 30-year-old married man first strangled his 22-year-old lover to death and then buried her body in the courtyard of his house with an intention to destroy the evidence for protecting himself from the police.

He managed to conceal his crime for over six months but he was ultimately tracked down by the police which succeeded to unearth this thrilling case of murder on the basis of call detail of the victim hailing from Schedule Caste (SC).

The girl belonged to Kothal Khurd village of Mahendergarh district and was pursuing her Bachelor Degree from a private college here and went missing under mysterious circumstances over seven months ago.

Kin of the girl had lodged a complaint with the police which was ever since investigating the case from different angles. DSP Anoop Dahiya, Investigation Officer of the case, told The Pioneer that the accused, identified as Ajit of Aligarh (Uttar Pardesh), confessed to his crime and disclosed during police interrogation that he wished to get rid of her as she had known that he was married with two kids.

“After fleeing from the home, the girl lived with Ajit in Noida for some weeks where he used to work with a private company. He had hatched her murder plot there under which he took the girl to his native village in Aligarh to perpetrate the conspiracy,” said the DSP.

Ajit murdered his lover when she was asleep at the house on January 29 this year. At the same day, he dug a six-feet-deep pit in the courtyard of the house and buried her body in it, said Dahiya, adding that Ajit’s wife had gone to her maternal house while the crime was committed.

“Ajit, who is a suspended jawan of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, became friendly with the girl over phone. Their friendship soon developed into an affair and in December last, Ajit enticed the girl to flee with him,” said the DSP, adding that the police had begun investigation in the girl missing case soon after the complaint in this regard.

The police found a long and repeated conversation between the girl and the accused when her mobile call detail report was analysed to find out any clue about her disappearance. Ajit started misguiding the police with fabricated stories when he was asked to present before it for interrogation, said the DSP. “We began mounting pressure on Ajit by carrying out raids at his whereabouts when he did not come to the police station to cooperate in probe despite being informed several times in this regard,” said Dahiya, adding that succumbing to the pressure, on July 11 Ajit finally surrendered before a local court which sent him to police remand.
