A man was arrested for operating an illegal parking business at the Press lane on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in central Delhi, police said on Thursday. The arrest was made following the complaints of illegal parking.

According to Special Commissioner of Police Muktesh Chander, it came to notice that some persons were operating illegal car parking in front of National Herald Building. Some Traffic policemen were deputed in disguise to keep a watch.

On March 18, at about 5 pm, a traffic cop, acting as decoy, parked his motorcycle in front of National Herald Building. Soon a man demanded Rs. 10 from him for parking the motorcycle.

"The policeman paid the money and got a receipt. It was confirmed that the accused was not authorised to collect any parking fee as no paid parking had been allocated by municipal authority. He could not produce any document to prove his authority to collect money for parking," said Chander.
