Man hacked to death, Hyd policemen look other way

Hyderabad’s image of a relatively crime free and safe city suffered another dent with one more brutal day light murder on Wednesday. What was worse that a man was hacked before the eyes of policemen but instead of preventing the crime their patrol vehicle drove away from the scene. The incident on a busy road was clearly caught on the CCTV camera leaving the citizens shocked and rattled.

In the footage only one passerby was seen trying to kick the assailants while all other passers by watched in horror. Even a traffic cop also watched the incident helplessly and a police patrol vehicle just passed by without stopping or trying to prevent the killing. According to sources there were three policemen in the Innova vehicle who did nothing and preferred to speed away after seeing the murder in progress.

According to the Rajindernagar police under Cyberabad commissionerate 25 year old J Ramesh, an accused in a murder case was brutally hacked to death near pillar 143 of the PV Narasimha Rao Exrpressway. Four persons waylaid the victim when he was  returning after attending the case in Rajinder Nagar court. Ramesh was accused No. 1 in the murder of his friend Mahesh Goud over a love affair.

Two of the suspects-Mahesh’ Goud father and uncle- surrendered before the police after fleeing from the scene of the murder leaving behind their weapons. The CCTV footage, which has gone viral on the social media, shows the assailants chasing the victim for some distance before attacking him and axing him to death.

Later police reached the scene of the crime and shifted the body to hospital for postmortem. Deputy Commisisoner of Police N Prakash Reddy said that the victim was an accused in the murder which took place in December last year in Shmshabad area.

According to the police record Ramesh, a resident of Dhoolpet and Mahes Goud were friends and developed an enmity over an affair with a married woman. Even after Ramesh gave a warning when Mahesh continued to pursue the woman he allegedly eliminated him by first making him consume liquor and then slashing his throat.

Now Mahesh Goud’s family avenged the killing almost in an identical manner as they hacked him with an axe.

This is the third such gruesome incident in Telangana in less than a month in which attacks were carried out in broad day light and were all caught on the CCTV cameras.

In an alleged honor killing case a Dalit youth Pranay Kumar was attacked and killed by an alleged hired killer in Miryalaguda town. Subsequently a father angered over her upper caste daughter marrying a Dalit man attacked his daughter with a matchette on a busy road in Erragadda area of Hyderabad.

As the video footage of all the incidents were extensively shown by the news channels, state director general of police K Mahinder Reddy had to issue a warning against repeated telecast of the grisly murders in violation of the rules.
