Annoyed that his marriage was cancelled, a 24-year-old youth slashed off the nose of girl’s brother in northwest Delhi’s Pitampura area on Monday. Two persons have been arrested while two others are on the run.

The incident took place on Sunday when the accused Raghu came to meet the girl’s parents to settle down some dispute related to their marriage preparations. Police said the two families had a quarrel over marriage preparations earlier too on April 8. The victim’s family alleged that Raghu had roughed up the girl’s father at his home. After this, the girl’s family called off the wedding.

“Miffed at this, Raghu and his three friends allegedly arrived at her home in a drunken state on Sunday night and requested to meet the girl, but her family members refused,” said an official.

Suspecting trouble from Raghu and his friends, girl’s brother Kamlesh Rakaiwar tried to call police but could not connect. “Raghu demanded that he be allowed to meet the girl. When Rakaiwar rejected his request, he pulled out a knife and cut off his nose,” the officer added.  The front portion of his nose fell on the ground and he was taken to hospital immediately, police said.

Also, Raghu and his friends allegedly thrashed Kamlesh’s mother and stabbed one of their relatives in arm. The assailants tried to escape, but Raghu and one other person Vikas were nabbed by the neighbours.
