Mamata urges BMW to set shop in Bengal

Starved of investment post-Singur movement, Bengal on Tuesday went in search of prospective investors at Munich when a State Government delegation including Finance Minister Amit Mitra, MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee met top level officials of BMW and made attempts to convince the automobile giant what “a fast developing” Bengal looked like under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The unusually long “three-hour discussion in which both the sides made their presentations” was “encouraging enough” said Mitra who hoped Tuesday’s meeting would work as a foundation for long-lasting relationship in future.

The two sides dwelt on 5-6 ideas which the Minister would not discuss. “The outcome of the meeting is very encouraging and we hope it would lead to productive engagements in the future,” Mitra maintained.

The Chief Minister who was also around at Munich — during her return journey from Vatican where she went to attend Mother Teresa’s sainthood ceremony — would not however speak to the media.
