At a time when a bewildered Congress is losing friends, the Trinamool Congress is gaining some particularly down South. In a clear indication of strengthening bonds between Mamata Banerjee and the DMK, the latter on Wednesday got the Bengal Chief Minister to unveil the statue of its former supremo M Karunanidhi on his first death anniversary.

Unveiling the statue of late DMK patriarch’s statue, Banerjee said she felt honoured by the gesture shown to her by one of the strongest outfits of the peninsular India. “Yes I feel honoured,” she said remembering her long-standing relationship with Karunanidhi and his son MK Stalin who was present at the inauguration ceremony. The statue was unveiled at the premises of party mouthpiece “Murasoli.”

Banerjee also paid tributes at Karunanidhi memorial at Marina beach before addressing a public meeting, TMC sources said in Kolkata.
