Exhibiting grief over the brutal killings of Amarnath pilgrims by terrorists, Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday came straight to political business condemning the Narendra Modi Government for its “failure to protect the lives of the Yatris.”
The Bengal CM, who was addressing a public meeting near Digha in East Midnapore, claimed that she “feel bad today” as “even Amarnath Yatris are being killed,” and then launched a scathing attack on the Modi Government saying “this Central Government can’t give protection to its people.” This “Government is a complete failure.”
Pouring loads of venom that she apparently collected from the widespread criticism of her Government’s alleged failure to tackle situations in Darjeeling and Basirhat, Banerjee said, “the only thing this Government can do is to divide the people of the country along communal and caste lines. They set Hindus against Muslims and vise versa, they instigate this caste against that for political gains,” warning “it is easy to ignite fires but very difficult to douse the flames.”
Alleging that the BJP Government was hatching a deep-rooted conspiracy to divide the country along communal lines she said “India is burning today from Kashmir to Kanyakumari” and added “everyone knows who is behind the unrest in Darjeeling. They have set Darjeeling on fire but we will not allow them to succeed in the Hills.”
Darjeeling had for the past one month been plagued by a violent movement led by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha which had been demanding a separate State of Gorkhaland. Referring to the GJM’s movement Banerjee warned “those who are trying to create mischief in Darjeeling at the behest of outsiders should keep in mind that I will never allow Bengal to be divided once ag-ain and those creating trouble there will have to face the law.”
Stopping short of naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Bengal Chief Minister said “their men divide, kill, burn and run riots in every part of India while they talk big in foreign countries earning accolades.”
