Mamata-Sonia meet today

Published on:

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has refused to play her cards on the coming scheme of anti-BJP alliance ahead of the presidential elections.

Before leaving for Delhi where she would meet Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday morning, Banerjee said she had nothing to say about the alliance as of now.

Curiously however, Banerjee’s meeting with the Congress president however comes a couple of days after Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury writing a letter to 10 Janpath about the Chief Minister’s credentials on alliances.

In his two-page letter Chowdhury wrote “Trinamool claims that it is fighting the BJP but in Bengal every possible scope for the BJP to spread its tentacles are being provided by the ruling party.”

It also referred to the corruption charges being faced by the Trinamool leaders in Narada and Sharada scams which meant the “biggest fishes” of the Trinamool could soon go to jail leaving the party’s organisational prowess ineffective in the State.

Banerjee however refused to lend credence to such letters saying in Bengal the CPI(M), Congress and the BJP had joined hands but that would hardly impact the national politics.

Meanwhile, after Sunday’s violence-ridden civic polls in which Trinamool goons were seen rampaging the State with open bombs and guns, the State Election Commission declared re-poll in six booths.
