A Chaiwalla then, a crorepati Paytmwalla now after the elections. That was how Mamata Banerjee continued to sting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
In a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, Banerjee on Monday said Modi had no feelings for the poor people of the country. “He is deaf to the sufferings of the people after the ‘note bandi’. Everything has taken a big beating from agriculture to small trading to unorganised labour and this Government has no eyes to take a look at the people’s hardships,” the Chief Minister said.
Banerjee was speaking to an audience in Bankura where she went to inaugurate a host of developmental projects. “Before the elections he was a tea seller and now he has become a millionaire who endorses Paytm,” Banerjee said adding “everyone can realize the crisis the country is in but it is only the Prime Minister who does not seem to see anything.”
“They are talking about giving wages of 100-days’ work through Paytm. But one should remember that you cannot dictate a person as to which mobile one should buy or which App one should opt for. We will not allow the Government to take commission at the cost of the people’s blood,” the Chief Minister said.
Attacking the Prime Minister for favouring the rich while calling himself a Fakir Banerjee said “he calls himself a Fakir (mendicant) but does he understand what a Fakir means!” the Chief Minister said adding “this Government has stopped all the developmental work in the country.”
“Even a common man understands the gravity of the issue but our Prime Minister does not understand it. By the time he does so there will be a disaster,” she maintained.
