Mamata may axe Singh, Trivedi from Parl panel

In an apparent move against “anti-party” activities, Mamata Banerjee has decided to remove senior Trinamool Congress MPs from the Parliamentary Committee.

These MPs are Dinesh Trivedi and KD Singh, inside sources said. They are likely to be replaced by Mukul Roy and “either Sudip Bandopadhyay or Kalyan Banerjee” sources said.

Trivedi a former Railway Minister had openly said that the party MPs and Ministers tainted in the Narada scam should resign their posts and get their names cleared before coming back to the political mainstream.

He had also openly protested against attacks mounted by Trinamool goons on Opposition workers and voters during the Assembly elections.

He had personally visited the CPI(M) households where alleged Trinamool goons had mounted late-night attacks not sparing even little children.

Trivedi’s “plain speak” against corruption and political hooliganism had irked the party leadership even as the Chief Minister told senior leaders that “any anti-party activity particularly when the party was in trouble would not be tolerated.” The former Railway Minister is known for his upright ways that has sometimes created differences between him and the top leadership.

The decision to remove Trivedi from his post is one such example of “zero tolerance” against anti-party activities, said a State Minister adding Trivedi had not been called to any party meeting in the recent weeks.

KD Singh a businessman-cum-politician who is considered an efficient fund raiser for the party is also likely to lose his place in the parliamentary committee, sources said. Though none would speak about his current chemistry with the Chief Minister an influential section in the party is reportedly livid with the way he had “sabotaged” the party during the elections.

Sources would not however speak specifically about the kind of sabotage they were referring to.

None of the party leaders would officially comment on when the changes would take place but sources said Roy is likely to function as the leader of Trinamool Parliamentary Party.
