Maken to take public transport today to spread environment message

In a significant step to curb air pollution, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken and his party colleagues would be seen using public transport on World Environment Day on Friday to encourage people to give up their private vehicles and use public mode of transportation to combat the level of pollution in the national Capital. Maken with his team of leaders would reach Connaught Place using different modes of public transports and then move towards their respective workplaces.

Earlier in a letter Maken had requested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to declare and promote June 5 (World Environment Day) as Public Transport Day, keeping in account the level of air pollution in National Capital.  He suggested the Government to promote multiple transport system by increasing the capacity of DTC buses as well as metros.

He, in a media briefing on Thursday, also took call on a raid by CBI in North Delhi Municipal corporation offices in connection to the fraudulent issuance of birth certificates and said, "ACB has not taken any stringent action against the concerned authorities even after a written request was filed to the bureau on May 28."

It came into light that the issuance of fake birth certificates is taking place for admissions of economically weaker sections, to apply for passports and to seek Indian citizenship and the major role is being played by the hospitals in providing multiple birth certificates on the basis of the records of any genuine applicant.

He reportedly said that several officials of the NDMC were working with the involvement of touts by using unique Senior District Magistrate (SDM) order numbers of any genuine applicant and issuing several fake certificates. He further questioned the claims of AAP considering it to be a fighter of corruption and said, "SDM involved in this case is directly under the ambit of NCT of Delhi. So why no action was taken even after complaints started coming in since April 10."

It was brought into knowledge that Congress Party for the same cause will stage a protest on Monday in MCD civic centre.
