A major decision in the Vyapam scam is expected next Friday as the Supreme Court will decide whether it should monitor the CBI investigation or constitute another body to do so.
With the court hearing a petition filed by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh for SC-monitored probe into the Vyapam scam, the bench headed by Chief Justice Hl Dattu asked CBI to come prepared on the next date with a response whether it favoured SC monitoring or a probe by a body appointed by court.
The bench, also comprising Justices Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy even directed CBI to suggest how much time was required to physically take possession of Vyapam cases and appoint prosecutors to appear in the trial before the special court.
The CBI had approached Court with a request to allow Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force, the earlier probe agency, to continue the probe as the CBI was still in process of taking over the voluminous documents. The Court had last week allowed STF to investigate, file charge sheet, and oppose bail petitions of 245 accused persons, whose period of detention was expiring this week. The Court extended this order till next hearing.
