On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 146th birth anniversary, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Anandiben Patel inaugurated a high-tech mobile museum on Mahatma’s life at his birthplace Porbandar on Friday.

The uniquely designed museum-on-wheels has been constructed on a mini truck. It will travel from the coastal town Porbandar in Gujarat to the national capital, New Delhi, from Saturday. The mobile museum will reach New Delhi by the last week of this month as it would be one of the major attractions for the 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit to be held from October 26 to 29.

The summit is expected to be attended by top political leaders from African continent. Keeping it in mind, the content and design of the museum has been developed to disseminate information about Mahatma Gandhi to international audience.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has built the mobile museum depicting life of Mahatma Gandhi for the international summit, said Rajiv Ranjan, joint secretary with the MEA. Ranjan, who was in Porbandar for the inaugural ceremony of the mobile museum, said that photographs, audio-video presentations, small documentaries on Mahatma, his messages and writes-ups as well as message on cleanliness are displayed in the museum. I-Pads have been installed to showcase small documentaries on Gandhiji.

“Gujarat Chief Minister inaugurated the museum-on-wheel. It would kick-start its journey from Saturday morning,” he said, adding that it would reach at Rajkot by afternoon and will be kept open for the people. The mobile museum will reach Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Sunday and from there, it would continue journey towards New Delhi passing through various cities in Rajasthan and Haryana.

Since Friday morning, plethora of programmes were organised at Mahatma’s birth place Porbandar. In the main event, Gujarat Chief Minister Patel paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary and attended prayer meeting at Kirti Mandir – where ‘Bapu’ spent his childhood.

“let’s work towards Mahatma’s favourite cleanliness movement with people’s participation. Gujarat Government is determined to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of making India clean by Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary in 2019,” said Anandiben.
