Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Wednesday informed the legislative Council that he had ordered a probe into the circumstances leading to the death of seven tigers in Chimur forest division of Vidarbha within a span of 48 hours from February 24 and 26 and its report was expected in the next two days.

Replying to a demand by leader of the Opposition Dhananjay Munde of the BJP that an inquiry be ordered into the”suspicious” deaths, Mungantiwar said: “I have ordered an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of seven tigers. I am expecting the inquiry report in the next two days. Based on its findings, the state government will initiate necessary action”. Earlier, seeking information under rule 93 of the House rules, Munde charged that seven ailing tigers in Chimur forest division of eastern Maharashtra had died due to lack of attention and medical treatment.
