Six-time MlA Omprakash Babarao alias Bachhu Kadu on Thursday created a major stir in Maharashtra political circles, by alleging that actress and Bharatiya Janata Party star MP Hema Malini was a ‘bumper drinker’
“It is wrong to link drinking to suicides.....who does not drinkIJ...75 per cent of MlAs drink, MPs drink......journalists also drink....Hema Malini toh bumper peeti hai...has she committed suicideIJ” Kadu said.
Kadu was speaking to media persons after addressing a farmers’ rally at Nanded in Marathwada region. He came with a controversial comment against Hema Malini when he sought to clarify how alcoholism and farmland suicides should not be linked.
Controversies are not new for Kadu. He had resorted to Sholay’s Dharmendra-like suicide attempt in 2006 to draw the Union Government’s attention to the recurring suicides by the distressed farmers from Vidarbha region.
last year, Kadu had assaulted a State Health Department official, prompting the Government employees to go on a strike to force the police to lodge a complaint in the matter. At one stage, he had also unilaterally rejected a fat pay hike for legislators.
