The Maharashtra Government on Friday set up a high powered task force, co-chaired by heads of Deutsche Bank and State Bank of India, to chart a road-map for setting up of an International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in Mumbai.
Announcing the setting up of the task force, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that he had earlier in the day chaired a brain-storming session through video conferencing to discuss the setting up of the IFSC in Mumbai.
“Did a brainstorming session through VideoConferencing for setting up of International Financial Services Centre@ Mumbai ...Constituted a high powered task force Co-chaired by Deutsche Bank Co-CEO Mr Anshu Jain & SBI Chairperson Ms Arundhati Bhattacharya,” Fadnavis said in two of the four tweets he put out on the issue.
The Chief Minister said that the task force would have international and domestic investor fund managers, nominated separately to chart future road-map and responsibilities.
Fadnavis said in another tweet: “State has an important responsibility to work closely with the Centre to create a framework that makes Mumbai a credible competitor among other IFSCs”.
The Chief Minister announced that the first meeting of the task force would be held in Mumbai in July this year “with a clear and credible road-map for the expeditious execution of this vital initiative”.
