The BJP-led Opposition staged protests inside and outside the Maharashtra legislature against the Congress-led DF Government on several contentious issues, including its demands like the need for prosecution of former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in the Adarsh scam and scrapping of Toll collection, as the Budget Session got underway on Monday.
The Opposition members, belonging among others to the BJP, Shiv Sena, MNS and PWP, rushed to the well and tried to disrupt Governor K Sankaranaryan’s address to a joint sitting of both the Houses of the State legislature.
Making no bones about their displeasure over the Governor’s decision to reject a CBI plea for the prosecution of Ashok Chavan in the Adarsh scam, the Opposition members raised slogans like “Go back.. Go back, Governor Go back home” and “Why did you protect Ashok ChavanIJ”
The Opposition members also raised slogans like “Toll mukt Maharashtra” ( toll-free Maharashtra and “lBT mukt Maharashtra” ( local Body Tax free Maharashtra), demanding the scrapping of the two levies.
