Supporters of the banned liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (lTTE) held a mid-night mass on Tuesday at Chennai to “celebrate” the birthday of Velupillai Prabhakaran. More than 500 hardcore lTTE supporters took part in the mass, according to S Doraisamy, the secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam, the main organisers of the meeting.
“We are sure that Prabhakaran is alive and safe somewhere in this world. Though the Sri lankan Army has claimed that Prabhakaran has been shot dead, they are yet to produce the death certificate. Similarly, the bodies of Prabhakaran’s wife and daughter have not been identified. We believe that Prabhakaran with his wife and daughter escaped from Sri lanka days before the final assault launched by the Sri lankan army in May 2009,” Doraisamy told The Pioneer.
