Negotiations between the Chief Justice of India and the four senior-most judges of Supreme Court entered the fourth day on Thursday but there were no signs of any truce yet. At the customary tea meeting, the four senior judges - Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B lokur and Kurian Joseph, met with CJI with their grievance after parleys were opened between the two sides by three other Supreme Court judges led by Justice AK Sikri.
Sources said that the CJI met the judges to know their grievance. The four judges openly expressed their grievance that pertained mainly to listing of politically sensitive PIls to a specific bench that was threatening to harm the reputation of judiciary in public eye. The meeting lasted for roughly about 12 to 15 minutes following which the judges walked to their respective courtrooms.
Much was not known about what transpired in the meeting. However, the meeting was inconclusive as the CJI failed to give any assurance to his senior colleagues. The CJI, according to sources in the SC, sought time to consider their grievance without intimating any timeframe. All eyes will now be on CJI to know what his next move is going to be. Minutes later, when the CJI presided over his bench, a petition was mentioned by a lawyer seeking directions to restrain media from publishing or commenting on the issues arising from the Friday presser by the four senior judges. Contrary to expectation, the CJI asked the petitioner to wait till the matter is listed before the Court in normal course.
