In what was promptly called by the Opposition left a “confession of political conspiracy she hatched at Singur and Nandigram”, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday while attacking the BJP for the ongoing turf war at Parui in Birbhum said she would “not allow a repeat of Singur-Nandigram like incident” in Parui.
Claiming that the “a political party is bringing outsiders and mercenaries to create trouble in parts of Birbhum district”, Banerjee said, “I will not tolerate such criminalisation and never allow a repeat of Singur and Nandigram-like situation” where arms were and mercenaries were brought from outside to create trouble.
The left leaders were prompt to react. Bikash Bhattacharya former Kolkata Mayor said, “her statement only goes on to prove the fact that we had been claiming for the past several years for Singur and Nandigram where the outsiders were brought and arms were imported to create trouble by her party.”
CPI(M) MP Shyamal Chakrbaraty said, “had Mamata Banerjee not known about outsiders’ angle in Singur and Nandigram then how could she make such an assertion. She is seeing a shadow of Singur and Nandigram in Parui and so she is making such statements.”
The Chief Minister was reacting to the questions from the media on the alleged victimisation of a BJP woman from Sattor who had been brutalised by some policemen and was arrested once again last week on false charges. “law will take its own course. The police must have some information which is why they acted the way they did,” Banerjee said.
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s statement, BJP leader, Rupa Ganguli said, “had law been taking its own course then there would not have emerged bomb factories in every village.”
