A local court in Surat gave life imprisonment to one Ishak Masalawala, who was accused of killing a teenage boy in the year 2000 during Bharat Bandh call given by right wing organisations to protest attack on Amarnath Yatra in terror-prone Jammu & Kashmir.
The deceased, 17-year-old Mahesh Kakadia, was killed by Masalawala with sharp weapon in Sodagarwad area of Surat. Kakadia was on his way to school to check whether his school was open on that day or not but he was brutally killed. Residing in Dhastipura, when Mahesh passed through Muslim-dominated Sodargarwad, he was attacked by a mob. By the time police reached, he died, though the cops arrested Masalawala. The court has also imposed `5,000 fine on him. Police had also arrested one Arif Behra but he was given benefit of doubt and court gave order to release him.
