Once again the Marxists have decided to hop on to the same bed as the Congress. With the Congress almost certain to boycott the Platinum jubilee celebrations of Bengal Assembly as a mark of protest against the ruling Trinamool Congress, the main Opposition left Front has decided to follow suit almost in the same pretext.

State CPI(M) secretary and left Front chairman Biman Bose on Tuesday said the left legislature Party would take the call on Wednesday after they meet Speaker Biman Banerjee. “The ruling party is continuously misbehaving with the Opposition leaders and elected members. They have ruined the democratic fabric of the State. Every day the Opposition workers are getting attacked by the Trinamool supporters at the behest of their leaders,” Bose said adding how “none of the senior left leaders has been invited in the function.”

The Assembly would celebrate its Platinum jubilee from December 4 to 6. President Pranab Mukherjee, lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar would attend the functions alongside notable guests like former Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. Earlier the Congress had also taken a similar decision even as it got a go-ahead from its national leadership. The Congress was protesting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s reported “false statements” in the House regarding non-cooperation by the Central Government.

“We want the Speaker to allow us to speak on the issue in the House,” Md Sohrab, senior Congress MlA said adding how the Chief Minister had falsely claimed that the Central Government was starving Bengal. “The story is completely different. We want to tell the Assembly when and how the Centre released funds for various schemes in Bengal.” The Congress wants the Speaker to speak on the issue in the House. “We will join the celebrations if the Government allows us to speak on the issue,” Sohrab said.
