After more than a week of unprecedented rains which submerged many parts of Hyderabad and five other districts, weather appeared to be returning to normalcy in Telangana. Even as many colonies in the cities were still under water and efforts were continuing to pump out the stagnant water, the citizen had a sigh of relief as the sun broke through the clouds for some time.
There has been no rains over Hyderabad in the last 36 hours. There was a let up in rains over most of Telangana. Maredupally in Karimnagar district received 4.2 cms rainfall and Aleru in Mahabubnagar distict had 2.7 cms of rains on Monday.
The Indian Meteorological Department has said that the low-pressure area has weakened and moved over Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts of Vidarbha.
Another low pressure area was also forming over East Central Bay of Bengal. If it moves closer to coastal Andhra, there will be fresh rains in Telangana.
Under the influence of the system there will be isolated rainfall over Telangana and Rayala Seema and coastal Andhra will receive heavy rains over the next 48 hours, the Center said.
YK Reddy, Director, IMD Hyderabad said that there was no possibility of rains in Hyderbad over the next three days.
Meanwhile the woes of the people of Hyderabad continue unabated as the heavy rains have completely devastated in most of the city. Big potholes and ditches were visible and lose rubble and soil was lying on the road where upto two to three feet water had accumulated.
The lose gravel was making difficult for the vehicle specially for the two wheeler to commute. On the busy Begumpet road, which passes in front of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s official residence flyover was in a pathetic condition and thick layer of dust was in the air making the eye itchy and covering the faces with grime.
The traffic police had a difficult time in making the bikers and four wheelers to speed up on the damaged roads. Though the state government has made a big deal of it efforts to repair and restore the roads on the five kms long stretch from Masab Tank to Begumpet not one GHMC worker was visible doing any repairing or cleaning work though it was damaged at many places.
However several teams of GHMC were busy with the demolition of the illegal structures around the lakes and on the storm water drains in different parts of the city.
Demolitions and removal of the illegal structures were carried out on Tuesday at Gachi Bowli, Bala Nagar, Dilsukhnagar, Karmanghat, Subhashnagar, Rajendernagar and Qutbullahpur.
In Gachibowli area tension prevailed as the local people resisted the demolition squad and the police had to intervene to remove the protestors.
On the prime Banjara Hills Road No. 1the authorities targeted the illegal encroachments around a lake adjoining the famous Taj Banjara Hotel. Officials said that the due to the illegal constructions on the lake area, the lake in the water had spilled on to the roads causing extensive damage and obstructing the flow of the traffic.
At many of these places authorities found that the obstruction in the flow of water had brought the drain water in to the homes.
Meanwhile in Andhra Pradesh Srisailam dam was continuing to receive heavy inflows from Jurala project. 1.40 lakh cusecs water was reaching Srisailam and it was nearing the full capacity. Against the full capacity of 881 feet the water level had reached 881.20 feet on Tuesday morning.
