leopard spotted inside Bengaluru school

A leopard entered a Bengaluru school early on Sunday morning and attacked at least six people who were trying to capture it.

The animal entered the campus of the VIBGYOR school in Whitefield around 4 am, CCTV cameras show. It remained undetected until late afternoon when it attacked one of the school staffers.

Forest department officials and police were called in to capture the animal. Since then, the leopard has already injured six people including a news cameraman who got too close and environmentalist Sanjay Gubbi who was part of the rescue team.

Forest department officials told reporters that the feline is still at large. They said one of the tranquiliser darts fired at it found its mark.

“The animal has become sluggish and disoriented. We need to capture it before it the tranquiliser wears off,” chief wildlife warden Ralf Ravi told reporters.

The leopard was finally tranquillised after a 14-hour long operation. The incident has once again brought to the fore the man-animal conflict on the outskirts of this rapidly expanding city.
