Good Friday tended to present a rare sight for the Bengal voters with both Congress and left parties jointly campaigning for each other in scores of constituencies, the one like Bhawanipore where Mamata Banerjee and former Union Minister Deepa Dasmunshi are pitted against each other to name a few.
Hundreds of Congress and CPI(M) supports roamed the Bhawanipore roads in South Kolkata led by Dasmunshi and local left leaders. “This may appear a rare sight but this is the reality of today’s Bengal where we have been forced to set aside all other issues and descend on the road in quest of democracy, peace and order” Dasmunshi the wife of ailing Congress leader PR Dasmunshi said.
“The way the voters are clogging the road to talk to us in Chief Minister’s own constituency we hope the people will listen to our appeal and vote for the Alliance.”
At Dum Dum up north on the other hand Congress supports hit the streets in support of CPI(M) candidate Palash Das praying to the voters for what they called “Praivartan II.”
Das said “This is an extraordinary situation. The Trinamool Congress has finished everything that Bengal stood for. There is no politics worth the name here. There is only hooliganism, corruption which has reached such a level that even the senior politicians like Saugato Roy and Subroto Mukherjee have been caught in camera taking bribe. We are appealing to the people to set aside every other consideration and vote only for democracy and restoration of order.”
Mamata Banerjee has “successfully squeezed out the instinct of greed among the people. This greed is of money, power, pelf, everything. This is why film stars, players, artists, musclemen, racketeers, syndicate wallas, goondas all have clustered around her in order to satisfy that greed. She has reached the State on the verge of apocalypse. Her rule must end or else Bengal itself will end,”
Arunabha Ghosh the Congress candidate from Bidhannagar said even as CPI(M) leader Ramola Chakrabarty walked by his side.
