leaders from various political parties visited the house of Sanjiv Kumar Singh — a soldier of the Rajput Regiment — who was martyred by the militants in an ambush in Tirap district of eastern Arunachal Pradesh with two other soldiers on Thursday last. Janta Dal (U) general Secretary KC Tyagi with other leaders thronged the martyr’s house in Dhindar village to pay homage. While consoling the martyr’s family, Tyagi said the family suffered double setback as it not only lost its son but its crop too was ruined in the recent hail storm.
Other leaders to visit the family included RlD leader Ajit Singh, Union State Agriculture Minister Sanjeev Balyan and BJP state president lakshmi Kant Vajpayee. The family, however, complained that no minister from Uttar Pradesh government visited them. “No Minister from the State Government came to meet us. Only the District Magistrate and the SSP were present at the time of the funeral,” said martyr’s father Jagpal Singh.
Forty-one-year-old Sanjiv had joined the Indian Army eighteen year ago. He was a wireless operator in the signal core in Rajput Regiment. “His truck was targeted by the militants. It was a deliberate attempt to destroy the communication system of the army. He sustained only a single bullet injury to the head,” said the father. Sanjiv is survived by his daughter Tanu (12) and son Tushar (11) who are studying in Hansraj Public School in Dilshad Garden in Delhi while the family members live in Vrindavan Garden in Sahibabad, said his grieving father.
