Even after two days of the incident, police are yet to find out actual culprits of the gang-rape of a woman police constable which took place at latehar road on late Thursday.
DGP Rajiv Kumar assured that the investigation is on and the culprits will soon be behind the bars. Kumar along with the victim’s family members and other top police officials visited the place of incident. “We have been following the case through some leads which we have received regarding the incident and expect that the culprits will be soon behind the bars,” said the DGP.
According to the DGP, some suspects were detained in the case but were released after interrogation. “We are investigating the case taking all aspects into consideration as the case is not as simple as it appears,” hinted Rajiv Kumar. Though, prima facie it appears a case of robbery, but after getting the details, it seems that the lady was probably targeted by the culprits. “Since, the alleged robbers are said to be not carrying any firearms and the lady’s gold chain and tops remained with her. It raises serious doubts over the intention of the robbers,” Kumar added.
We are also looking into other aspects also and a team has been put in to give report after completing the investigation, he added. A three-member team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar has been formed to investigate the matter. The police constable in her 20s was gang-raped by a group of robbers at Jagaldaga in latehar district on National Highway 75, some 180 km from Ranchi while she was returning her home town Garhwa along with her family with the dead body of her slain sister on Thursday.
The victim, her parents, two daughters aged 3 and 5, along with her two sisters and their husbands, were travelling together. The car carrying the body of her youngest sister, who was shot dead in Ranchi on Thursday, was following them. They were stopped and looted by men armed with axes. Her sisters, however, were not harmed. The victim is a constable with the latehar district police. She was granted job on compensatory grounds after her husband was killed in the Maoist ambush on the convoy of former Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari in Garu block of latehar district in December, 2011.
