Over a dozen roads including the national highway- 87 connecting Haldwani to Almora remained blocked in Nainital district on Monday on account of landslides accompanied by boulders due to heavy rain. Blockages on the main Haldwani-Almora and Haldwani-Nainital roads gave a harrowing time to the motorists including tourists as delay in opening of the roads only added to their woes.
The Haldwani-Nainital Road which is part of NH-87 was blocked near Dogaon. Though the officials concerned said, JCB machines were put into service to remove the debris, incessant rain badly hit the efforts throughout the day.
Apart from that, the main highway was also blocked at Jaurasi between Bhowali and Almora due to debris. This highway was also reported to be blocked near Kainchi Dham (Bhowali) resulting in traffic jam, as the officials concerned of the district disaster management control room said.
