Terming the land Bill as “anti-farmer and pro-corporate”, Congress leader Jyotiraditiya Scindia on Monday said the BJP-led Government should take back the Bill, which would create total unrest in the country. Scindia said the law in its present form would allow private entities to take away multi-crop land, which will put at stake food security of the people.
“Is the Government trying to reduce this country to an importer of foodgrainsIJ If this Bill gets passed, farmers will give up all expectations from this country,” Scindia said pointing out that even the allies like Shiv Sena could not digest the Government’s move. Scindia’s praise on Rahul Gandhi’s Bhatta Parsol agitations for the farmers created light moments in the House. “Tell us why are you bringing amendments in our Act. You supported it in 2013. The Bill was vetted by the Standing Committee headed by Sumitra Mahajan, who is currently our Speaker. No faults found then. This is nothing but to help the corporate to acquire famers lands,” he said.
“Through the amendments, you have made the Bill look like a body ripping it of its flesh and blood,” he said, appealing to the members to vote against the amendments when the Bill comes up for passage on Tuesday.
