Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief lalu Prasad Yadav, presently lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail following his conviction in the fodder scam case RC20A/96, on Thursday moved the Jharkhand High Court, seeking bail for himself against the judgment of the special CBI court which found him guilty.

lalu has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of five years by the CBI court on October 3.

“An appeal has been filed in the Jharkhand High Court today and we expect that the matter will be taken up soon in the court,” said lalu’s lawyer Prabhat Kumar.

A petition for the stay on his sentencing and payment of the fine amount has also been filed in the court, he added.

The special designated CBI court of PK Singh had convicted lalu along with other 43 convicts including another former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra on September 30 in connection with the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa treasury during the RJD regime in the 1990s.
