After Odd-Even car rationing scheme, Delhi Government is planning to propose the main stretch of road from lal Quila to Fatehpuri Chowk into a non-motorised zone. In a proposal submitted by the Shahjehanabad Redevelopment Corporation, the entire stretch of road will be open only to pedestrians and cycle rickshaws starting May 22-29. The drive will be carried out on a trial basis to map its feasibility on the 1.5 kilometre road in the heart of Walled City. No cars or two wheelers will be allowed to enter the market place. Shoppers and visitors who wish to enter the market area will have to ferry on cycle rickshaws, whose movement will be restricted till the northern side of the carriageway.

Sources said that the final decision to this effect would be taken by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal soon. Sources said that there is possibility that proposed plan can hit the roads on May 22 and will be run till May 29. The proposal was discussed among the officials of Delhi Traffic, Public Work Depar-tment, SRDC and other agencies.

It may be noted that Delhi High Court on Thursday had asked Delhi Government for its plan to start the scheme that was already proposed in year 2008. The Delhi HC comment came in the hearing of the ongoing tussle between Delhi Sikh Committee and the government following the dismantling of 'Piau' of the Sisganj Gurudwara situated in the area.  According to sources, the upcoming scheme is a joint venture of Shahajahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) and Public Works Department.
