Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday flagged off five trucks carrying 100 MT of Refuse Driven Fuel (RDF) to the Cement Plant. This move comes after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with JK Cement for lifting RDF from its landfill sites.
According to the officials, for the first time, MCD has started selling RDF waste at the rate of Rs 100 per MT, Saxena flagged off five trucks carrying approximately 100 MT of RDF from the Okhla landfill site.
“Until last month, empanelled agencies were charging Rs 1746 per MT from MCD for disposal of RDF. Now, the MCD has started providing RDF to industries at a cost. This initiative, apart from saving Rs 1200-1500 per MT for cash strapped MCD, will also ensure revenue generation from its waste, in addition to addressing the issue of effectively disposing of it in an eco-friendly manner. J.K. Cements will be lifting 50,000 MTs of RDF annually and MCD will be saving Rs. 6.73 Cr. in the process,” he said.
