Suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh on Monday demanded steps against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and others in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam and sought interim bail and parole to attend the Rajya Sabha, which were refused by a city court.
The public prosecutor vehemently protested against his contention that he be allowed to briefly attend the RS. Also, Ghosh claimed that he “started a fast-unto-death from Monday till steps were taken against those who used the Saradha Group”, when he was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rudraprasad Roy at City Sessions Court in connection with the chit fund scam.
Ghosh told the court that CBI’s role in the Saradha chit fund case had become suspect as all those “bigger fishes” who were hatched the larger conspiracy in the multi-crore scam and benefited from it the most were still roaming free whereas he had to languish in jail.
The ruling Trinamool Congress sources said the party did not want Ghosh to raise the issue in the House causing more embarrassment for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a number of whose ministerial colleagues had already been named in the chit fund case.
Ghosh had been suspended from the Trinamool Congress after he had openly challenged the CM for making him a scapegoat while “she is one person who has benefited the most from the media business of the Saradha company.”
Ghosh had earlier attempted suicide complaining harassment by the security forces in the jail and also protested against inaction by the investigating agency to nail the real culprits.
