Kunal kicked, dragged by WB cops

Jailed Trinamool Congress MP was on Tuesday pushed, kicked and literally dragged away by policemen even as he tried to speak to the media while being presented before a city court.

Ghosh who was a facing number of charges under multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam was in jail for more than 17 months.

The attack on the rebel Trinamool MP came after he reportedly told Apurba Ghosh the designated judge that he was not being given adequate treatment for kidney ailments at the behest of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“I was told by police officers that I would get more such thrashings if I did not stop talking about Chief Minister,” Ghosh reportedly told the Court complaining how despite being diagnosed with kidney ailments he was not being taken to any Government hospital, nor any tests were conducted on him.

Once a blue-eyed boy of the Chief Minister Ghosh had earlier told the media that “if anyone who has gained the most from Saradha media business it is Mamata Banerjee” leading to a flutter in the political circles.

Ghosh had also claimed that some powerful people were trying to ensure that he died without getting treatment. The Rajya Sabha member had once attempted suicide. Sources in the Presidency penitentiary said that he had been suffering tremendous stomach pain and the jail doctors advised him to be treated by a nephrologist.

“He has not been taking adequate food and often complains of pain,” a jail official said adding however there were no instructions for him from the higher authorities.

It was this issue which was raised by Ghosh in the court on Tuesday when he reportedly told the judge that he was not only being stopped from talking to the media but also being beaten up by the police. The judge reportedly cautioned the police.

Notwithstanding, the jailed MP was shoved, kicked and dragged away by a police inspector, even as Ghosh screamed aloud in front of the media.

Incidentally, the CBI had earlier written to the jail authorities to inform them about his condition but no intimidation from the jail came, sources said. Ghosh’s condition was in sharp contrast to that of Minister Madan Mitra who had for the past several months getting “treatment” at the VVIP Woodburn Ward at the SSKM Hospital.

Meanwhile, in a related development the Trinamool Congress had suspended two rebel MlAs of the party Silbhadra Dutta and Seuli Saha for attending the Iftar party of Mukul Roy on Sunday. Curiously, the party was attended by a large number of people from the minority community.

Though Roy himself was mum a close acquaintance and a former Trinamool MlA Dipak Ghosh said they would soon form a political forum “preferably after Eid.”
