Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, on December 16 could throw some surprises as there is a possibility that rebel Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader and poet Kumar Vishwas may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in his presence.
Though sources close to the poet denied such a move, and there is a tradition that no politics is involved during the Prime Minister’s function, sources in the BJP confirmed in Lucknow on Friday that there is a strong possibility of Kumar Vishwas joining the party.
“There is a surprise for you. Wait till Sunday,” a senior BJP leader said. In 2014, Kumar Vishwas contested the Lok Sabha election from Amethi constituency on AAP ticket and in 2019 he could be the BJP candidate in place of Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani.
But sources in the BJP claimed that Vishwas could be shifted to Rae Bareli to contest against Sonia Gandhi, while Irani could contest against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi again.
