In a major initiative to prevent atrocities and assault on women, Karnataka Government is going to introduce "Pink Police" an all women police brigade in Bengaluru. After increasing incidents of violence against women in IT city Bengaluru, the ruling Congress Government has decided to introduce 'Pink Police' the all-women police patrol in the city to ensure safety of women.

According to G Parameshwara, Home Minister of Karnataka this would prevent violence on women in Bengaluru. The recent incidents of rape and violence have shaken the IT city and this measure is one of the initiatives to prevent repeat of such incidents of violence on women.

Replying to a query from BJP member and cine actor Tara Anuradha in the ongoing Budget Session at the council during the Question Hour, the Home Minister on Thursday said that such a brigade was already in existence in Kerala and it was worth emulating in the State.

“We have identified vulnerable spots in the city and we will plug any such incidents from happening.  We will introduce 'Pink Hoysala' police patrol vehicles driven by women and with women staff" he added.

In another interesting issue in the Council Karnataka Government to aid the coconut farmers who are in distress will enact a rule asking cinema  hall and multiplex owners across the State to sell tender coconut during the shows. Farmer suicides have shaken Siddaramaiah Government and this is one such initiative to help farmers in distress.

Replying to a question by member M K Pranesh during question hour that cinema houses and Multiplex owners were forcing viewers to purchase charging exorbitant rates for snacks inside the theaters and not allowing cinema goers to carry food from outside and they were refusing to sell tender coconut despite summer heat, the Minister Prakash Khandre said the Government would take a suitable action.

"Providing tender coconut water to cinema goers is a good idea whether it is summer or winter. The Government will take a suitable decision," he added.

The Government will ensure that all cinema halls and multiplexes will compulsorily sell tender coconut water in the short future, he said. The Minister however said the Karnataka Government had not taken any decision to ban sales of soft drinks flavoured with artificial ingredients in cinemas.

Recently retail traders and merchant associations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala decided not to sell soft drinks in the brand names of Coca-cola and Pepsi.
