The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday dismissed the bail plea of Congress MlA NA Haris’s son Mohammed Haris Nalapad in an assault case. The Bench said his plea was dismissed on the grounds of ‘protecting peace in society’ and to check the ‘manipulation and destruction of evidence’.
In February, a lower court had sent Nalapad to 14 days in judicial custody for allegedly beating up a man in the company of his friends at a restaurant on February 17. Special Public Prosecutor Shyamsundar had argued that Nalapad should be not be given bail for fabricating evidence. He alleged that the defence had furnished a fake report of Vidvat, the victim, being discharged from hospital. The special prosecutor also claimed that the defence had violated the law by accessing such a document.
Nalapad and his supporters are believed to have also visited Vidvat at the hospital and warned him against filing a complaint. The court also had taken cognisance of the footage of the assault contradicted the defence’s claim that Nalapad was not at the restaurant and did not assault the victim. The defence lawyer had also claimed that Vidvat was drunk and was injured when he fell on his face. However, doctors at Mallya hospital who treated him denied the claim.
Nalpad was denied bail in relation to an alleged brutal attack on Vidvat loganathan at Farzi Cafe in UB City in central Bengaluru on February 17.
Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar dismissed the bail petition filed by Nalpad. The decision came after Nalapad approached the HC following the revoking of his bail plea by the session’s court.
In February, the accused Mohammed Haris Nalpad and seven others allegedly hit Vidvat with a jug, a bottle and knuckle rings.
