Acting swiftly on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s directives to start proceedings against those who were instrumental behind the Narada sting expose the Detective Department of the lal Bazar Police on Thursday issued summons to Narada CEO Mathew Samuels asking him to appear before it.
The summons was sent by the financial offence wing of the detective department, sources said adding the correspondence had been e-mailed to the Narada CEO.
The incident takes place a day before Calcutta High Court is scheduled to hear the Narada sting case. Early this week the Division Bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur had said the Court’s verdict in this regard was final and all other decisions taken by any other authority was immaterial. The Court said so when senior advocate Bikash Bhattacharya drew its attention towards the State Government’s order for a probe into the Narada case despite its being subjudice in the HC. The sting case hit national headlines when a host of senior TMC leaders including MPs, Ministers were seen accepting cash — for alleged future promises — from a journalist faking as a prospective investor.
