The Kolkata Police seems to have forgotten nothing and learnt nothing from the past wrongs. In a torture bordering medieval ways three policemen in Kolkata brutally beat up a man and then urinated on his face before leaving him in a half-comatose state only to be rescued and hospitalised by the locals.
All this happened on Thursday night at the Park Circus area not far from the place where the Kolkata cops a few years fought a pitched battle with a violent mob protesting the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rehman.
Md Rafiq the Thursday’s victim who was returning home was allegedly accosted by some youth who demanded a match box from him and failing to oblige they beat him up. When Rafiq brought this to the notice of three constables passing nearby they only pounced him beating him up black and blue.
“We watched this from a distance not daring to challenge the men in uniform. They were only asking Rafiq as to why he was out in such late hours. It was just about 10.30 in the night” said Md Sayeed a local adding “before leaving, the cops urinated on his face even as he cried for mercy. Finally he passed out.”
When the offending cops left the locals carried the injured Rafiq to the CNMC Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
“Though the DCP came and assured us of action no action has been taken against the erring policemen”, the father of the victim said.
