Guwahati: Eyeing the large number of Christian voters in most of the North-Eastern States, BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli on Tuesday said that the BJP is not an anti-anybody party and that the party’s only agenda is overall development.

Kohli was addressing the media here on Tuesday on the sidelines of party president Amit Shah’s visit to Guwahati today to participate in the Mahasampark Abhiyan, where he met most of the party leaders and workers from the northeastern states. Shah, however, avoided the media throughout the day.

“The BJP stands for national integration and it is the propaganda by the a section which wants to show that the BJP is against Christian or some other religion,” Kohli said while adding that the development agenda of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government has attracted the people to join the party in the last one year.

Giving the statistics, Kohli said that the party’s membership drive has gone up to 26 lakh in Assam from mere 2.5 lakh a year back. “In Christian majority States like Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram also the BJP’s membership drive has reached 65,000, one lakh and 78,000 respectively,” he said. “In recent Tripura elections too, the BJP emerged as the second party,” he said while asserting the increasing popularity of the party in the North-Eastern region.

He said that the recent membership drive of the party has crossed 10 crore mark. “Through the Mahasampark Abhiyan, our members will go house to house and meet the over 10 crore people who had taken party membership by giving a missed call. We will also ask them if they have time for training, and if they do then they will be trained,” he said.
