After Kerala, the 'Kiss of love' is now en route to Karnataka, of course, with a warning. With the proposed campaign against moral policing taking a turn of a storm, the Congress Government in Karnataka opposed the 'Kiss of love' campaign and warned against anyone violating the law. Karnataka Home Minister KJ George warned the activists of the campaign and said violators of law will face action.
He said, "Anyone can do anything that is permissible under law. If anyone violates law, our police will take action. It is left to the Police Commissioner in Bengaluru and SPs in other districts. Home Minister cannot directly interfere, they (police) will do their job," he added.
A group of individuals calling themselves as volunteers of the event had planned to hold 'Kiss of love' in the city during this week but decided to postpone it citing threats the event has received and are yet to finalise the date. Several right wing organisations and individuals have expressed their strong opposition to the event.
The first "Kiss of love" event was held in Kochi on November 2 after activists from all over Kerala decided to protest against moral policing by right-wing groups. Similar events have been organised at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai. The campaign started after a coffee shop in north Kerala's Kozhikode city was vandalised by a group of people who were protesting against "public display of affection" by some couples there.
