Union minister Kiren Rijiju has warned of action against Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen over alleged racial abuse of a young man from Tripura.

“This evil man will be punished,” Rijiju tweeted on Wednesday, adding that Delhi and Tripura Police would “teach him a hard lesson”. He also said delays in filing an official complaint had affected the process.

The controversy erupted after a video allegedly showing Shokeen making derogatory remarks about a young man from Tripura circulated online. The remarks have triggered widespread condemnation, particularly across Northeast India.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the state’s Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police. The Youth Tipra Federation has also filed a complaint seeking legal action against Shokeen over the alleged incident.

Shokeen has apologised, claiming the video was scripted and intended as humour. He has said the young man featured in it was known to him.

The allegations have renewed concerns about racial discrimination faced by people from Northeast India in other parts of the country. No arrest has been confirmed in the information available.
