Ace designer Wendell Rodricks has donned the cloak of an activist and petitioned the President against the Ordinance being moved by the Central Government to ensure political parties stay outside the ambit of the Right to Information Act.
In a letter to the President, Rodricks said the Government should come clean on its intentions behind the Ordinance. “The ostensible purpose is to counter the decision of the CIC declaring six political parties as public authorities which are subject to the Right to Information Act,” Rodricks said in his letter to Mukherjee.
The letter sent on Wednesday, by the Goa-based designer wants the Government to makes its motives public. “Representatives of all political parties have stated that they believe the CIC decision is unsound legally and hence they are opposing it. If they are being truthful, they can certainly go in a writ to the Courts,” Rodricks has said.
“If you do issue the said Ordinance, I am hoping you will share the reasons for the immediate action with citizens,” the designer said. A recent CIC’s ruling bringing six political parties under the RTI Act was met with muted response from parties which didn’t seem overtly pleased with the ruling.
