It turned out to be a Black Friday in Kerala as the State witnessed a cold-blooded murder of a 21-year-old girl by her collegemate of the same age allegedly for spurning the latter’s proposal for love. People in the State were for more shock as a 17-year-old girl Alfiya of Thiruvananthapuram committed suicide because she was ditched by her lover Jishnu, an ambulance driver.
Nithina of Vaikam, daughter of a single mother had her throat slit by Abhishek Baiju at 11.30 on Friday in the college campus. Both were students of St Thomas College, Pala, an educational institution of repute in the State. Nithina had come to the college to wrote the university examination while Baiju was waiting outside for her to come out of the examination hall.
A security guard who stood mute witness to the gruesome incident told the police that the attack on the girl took him by surprise. “The youth took out a knife and slit her neck after an exchange of words. He did not move out of the place as the girl fell down gasping for breath. Later he surrendered to the police who rushed to the campus on being informed about the incident,” said the security guard who declined to disclose his name.
Nithina was the lone hope of her physically challenged mother, a daily wage earner in Vaikkoam.
This is the second murder in as many months happening in the campuses in Kerala. On July 30, (and that too on a Friday), Manasa, a dental surgeon who was in the last phase of her house surgency was shot dead by Rakhil, her lover, in the hostel of Indira Gandhi Dental College at Kothamangalam. Rakhil committed suicide after bumping off Manasa.
Jishnu, who had helped Alfiya by taking her to hospital some months ago while she was bed ridden with Covid-19, allegedly ditched her which came as a shocker to the Plus-Two student who resorted to the extreme measure. The youth has been arrested by the police.
