Former lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Sunday lashed out at the Kerala lobby of the CPI(M) for ruining the party to the point of near-decimation.
Stopping short of naming leaders like Prakash Karat and others Chatterjee said the situation was such that the CPI(M) was on the verge of extinction and “some leaders from South India have brought the party to this state.”
There are plenty of issues when democracy is being murdered in Bengal the party should have taken extraordinary steps to launch a movement but that was not done, he said adding “Sitaram Yechury is not being given to take steps which can revive the party. He can do nothing because he is in minority both in the politburo and central committee.”
There was time when “we would be proud to be in the CPI(M) because of the character of our leaders. Now the works are in disarray. They are a confused lot. They want to work selflessly but they are not allowed to work. They don’t the kind of leadership that was required in these bad days” he said.
He had earlier said that lack of forceful movement and existence of plentiful issues only brought disillusionment among the people pushing them towards parties like the BJP.
