The official website of the Kerala Government — www.kerala.gov.in — was hacked late Saturday night by hackers, suspected to be from Pakistan. The home page of the hacked site showed a picture of the Tricolour being burned and it also carried messages like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. The page carried what appeared to be the hacker’s identity, Faisal 1337, and a sentence claiming “We are Team Pak Cyber Attacker”. It also contained a web address, www.Faisal1337.com.
The State Government’s cyber security experts confirmed that the hackers were unable to get past the homepage and into the server that hosted the website. Sources said that they had shut down the site following the attack.
The Cyber Wing of the Kerala Police has started a probe into incident with the assistance of IT experts, who said only the site had been hacked. The State Data Centre under the Kerala State IT Mission on Sunday started repairing the site.
CM Oommen Chandy said the Government was viewing the incident very seriously. “It is a serious matter. There will be a through probe,” said Chandy. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that there was no reason for worry as the site did not contain secret matters related with the Government, adding that the Cyber Cell of the police was probing the matter.
