The CPI(M)’s Kerala State Committee on Wednesday decided to publicly censure its senior leader and State Power Minister MM Mani, who had made some extremely dirty remarks last week against a forum of women tea estate workers of Munnar and some Revenue Department officials who had carried out an anti-encroachment operation in the hill resort recently.
The party decided to take disciplinary action against Mani in the context of the dirty remarks he had been carelessly and continuously making in his speeches bringing disrepute to the entire party and the lDF Government it is leading in the State. This is the second time Mani is facing action from the party for his habit of making negative comments carelessly.
The decision to censure Mani, comparatively a light disciplinary action as far as the CPI(M) is concerned, also means that the party has effectively rejected the intensifying demand for his expulsion from the Cabinet over his obscene remarks against the Penpilai Orumai, Munnar’s forum of woman plantation workers, and Devikulam Sub-collector Sriram Venkitaraman.
The CPI(M) State committee issued a one-sentence statement saying that a meeting of the committee had decided to publicly censure MM Mani for making controversial speeches continuously without being sufficiently careful. Sources said that no lengthy debate was held at the meeting on Mani’s errors. The CPI(M) State committee’s decision came close on the heels of the intense criticisms he faced in a meeting of the party’s State secretariat on Tuesday.
